Ten individuals lost their lives in a tragic road accident on the Damaturu-Maiduguri highway, with three others sustaining injuries. The incident occurred at a checkpoint in Warsala town around 3 pm on a Tuesday. Witnesses reported that a truck carrying cement and passengers overturned and fell into a ditch, resulting in the fatal casualties.
The Yobe State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the accident in a statement the following day. Abdulkarim mentioned that the injured individuals were promptly taken to the Specialists Hospital in Damaturu for medical attention.
The police spokesperson explained that the truck lost control, collided with a Sharon car at the checkpoint, and then careened into the ditch. Fortunately, the driver of the Sharon car escaped without injuries, although the vehicle sustained damage.
