10 ministries get over N1tn each in 2025 budget

More than 10 federal ministries and agencies are set to receive appropriations exceeding N1tn each in the 2025 budget, as revealed by recent analysis. The breakdown of the proposed allocations in the 2025 Appropriation Bill presented to the National Assembly includes ministries such as Police Affairs, Interior, Defence, Finance, Power, Works, Budget, Economic Planning, Niger Delta, Education, and Health.

The finance ministry is allocated the highest amount of N17.52tn, primarily for salary payments, marking an 87.78% increase from the previous year. The Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning follows with an allocation of N6.78tn, up by 52.35%. The Ministry of Defence is third on the list with an appropriation of N2.92tn, showing an 84.81% increase. Additionally, the Ministry of Interior is allocated N1.13tn, a significant rise from the previous year.

Other ministries such as Power, Works, Niger Delta, Education, and Health also received substantial allocations in the proposed budget. The total budget of N49.7tn was recently passed by both the Senate and the House of Representatives for second reading, with a focus on restoration and development initiatives. The budget includes a revenue projection of N34.82tn to cover the aggregate expenditure of N47.9tn, resulting in a deficit of N13.0tn.
