A tragic road accident on Saminaka Road in Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State resulted in the loss of 15 children’s lives. The incident took place around 1 pm on Sunday when a J5 bus carrying 63 children collided with an articulated vehicle. The driver lost control due to overspeeding, leading to the fatal crash, with 15 children dying instantly and 48 others sustaining injuries of varying degrees.
Corps Commander Kabiru Nadabo, Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Kaduna State, confirmed the details of the incident and stressed the importance of road safety measures. An eyewitness described the scene as chaotic, recounting the bus swerving out of control and colliding with the other vehicle.
The injured children were promptly taken to Comprehensive Hospital in Saminaka, while the deceased were moved to Dabo Lere Memorial Hospital. An investigation into the accident has been initiated by the FRSC to prevent future tragedies. Nadabo emphasized the necessity for drivers to prioritize road safety and adhere to speed limits, particularly during festive seasons.
In the midst of mourning for the victims, there is a national call for increased vigilance on the roads to prevent similar incidents. The FRSC continues to advocate for safe driving practices and urges drivers to be cautious at all times.
