Sule Lamido University, Kafin Hausa, will confer First Class Honours on 154 students at its 2nd Combined Convocation Ceremony scheduled for Saturday.
The Vice-Chancellor, Muhammad Yakasai, disclosed this during a pre-convocation press briefing held on Thursday at the university’s Senate Building in Kafin Hausa, Jigawa State.
According to Yakasai, the university will graduate 4,109 students across six academic sessions, broken down as follows: 154 First Class, 1,326 Second Class Upper, 1,954 Second Class Lower, 649 Third Class, and 26 Pass degrees.
He noted significant progress in the institution’s academic programmes, including the introduction of postgraduate studies and the restructuring of the School of Preliminary Studies into the School of Preliminary and Continuing Education.
Yakasai further explained that the university has expanded its infrastructure with the construction of academic facilities, hostels, a modern library, and research centres.
He said, “Solar energy solutions and ICT development are also being implemented to enhance efficiency on campus.
“Staff and student welfare remain a priority, with initiatives such as subsidised transportation and accommodation.”
The Vice-Chancellor acknowledged the support of the Jigawa State Government and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund in the university’s growth.
“Twelve NELFUND disbursements have been made so far, benefiting our students,” he added.
He disclosed that the university is taking steps to establish a College of Medicine to enhance its academic offerings and contribute to the healthcare sector.
Yakasai said the institution was optimistic that the proposed college would produce skilled medical professionals to meet societal needs.
He added that the introduction of postgraduate studies had boosted academic programmes, increased research output, and attracted experienced academics and researchers.
The Vice-Chancellor said the university’s infrastructure development had transformed the campus, providing modern facilities to support effective teaching and learning.
He added that the facilities include lecture halls, laboratories, and a well-equipped library designed to create a conducive learning environment.
On welfare, Yakasai said the university remained committed to improving the well-being and productivity of staff and students through various support initiatives.
He added that programmes had been implemented to enhance staff development, student success, and campus safety.
However, he appealed to the Jigawa State Government for additional support in staffing and accommodation to sustain quality teaching and research.
