2027: SDP won’t be subjected to merger rules – National secretary

The Social Democratic Party has declared its decision to refrain from engaging in mergers or complying with merger regulations before the 2027 elections. The party, through its National Secretary, Olu Agunloye, emphasized that it will not adopt the clean slate or take-over models. It expressed disappointment with the governance of the APC and PDP, highlighting issues such as injustice, corruption, vote-buying, and insecurity that have led to economic challenges, high youth unemployment, and widespread poverty.

Agunloye noted the necessity of the SDP as a progressive alternative in light of these challenges. The party has seen an influx of various politicians with differing interests, including those aiming for good governance, seeking political positions, or pursuing personal agendas. The SDP plans to maintain transparency, uphold social justice principles, integrate new members into its existing structures, and focus on winning elections without engaging in mergers or being bound by merger rules.

The party aims to learn from past alliances’ mistakes and carefully manage the diverse interests within its ranks. By starting early, the SDP intends to implement strategic plans effectively and refine them over time. It will strengthen its institutions, enhance membership processes, establish stakeholder meetings, and action committees for program implementation while avoiding any buy-out schemes.

Overall, the SDP is positioning itself as a formidable political force with a clear vision and a commitment to good governance and progressive ideals.
