Government College Ughelli in Delta State is preparing to commemorate its 80th anniversary with a special awards ceremony recognizing individuals and organizations for their significant contributions to society and national development. The college will honor notable figures such as Dr. John Momoh, Jim Swartz, Osagie Okunbor, Amaju Melvin Pinnick, Allen Onyema, Miller Obriks Uloho, Prof. Olu Akinyanju, Dr. Titus Okereke, Joseph Akpieyi, Charles Majoroh, Prof. Oritsegbemi Omatete, the Niger Delta Development Commission, and its Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku.
The event is scheduled for January 17, 2024, with Senator George Akume as the Chairman and Sheriff Oborevwori as the Chief Host. The President-General Worldwide of the GCU Old Boys Association, Olorogun Albert Akpomudje (SAN), and Secretary-General, Wilson Egbodje, have extended invitations to the honorees, emphasizing the importance of their roles in advancing the school and contributing to societal growth.
Chevron will be acknowledged for its infrastructure contributions, particularly through the donation of classrooms and a laboratory. Channels Television will also be recognized for its media support in covering the affairs of Government College Ughelli. The association appreciates their efforts in preserving the school’s legacy and inspiring pride among students and alumni.
