97% of our workers paid November salaries, Kwara replies NLC

The government of Kwara State recently announced that approximately 97 percent of its 18,466 employees have received their November salaries and bonuses. The remaining 4.5 percent who have not been paid are those who have not registered with the State Resident Registration Agency as mandated by the government since July 2024, or those with unresolved issues.

The Nigeria Labour Congress had previously requested the release of the November 2024 salaries for its members in the state’s 16 local government areas. They highlighted that around 75 percent of workers, primarily from the local government areas, had not received their salaries for November.

Groups affected by the delayed payments included the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria, and the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives. The government clarified that 97 percent of SUBEB teachers and employees, and 77 percent of local government workers had been paid, with the remaining percentages lacking the necessary documentation.

The government emphasized that the claims of 75 percent or 45 percent of the workforce not receiving their salaries were inaccurate. They encouraged genuine employees still awaiting payment to complete the registration process with the State Resident Registration Agency and the Ministry of Finance.

The government reiterated its commitment to promptly paying salaries and addressing outstanding issues to ensure all legitimate workers receive their dues. They called on labor unions to support the transparency initiative aimed at benefiting everyone.
