The Senate swiftly approved a bill for the establishment of the Federal University of Agriculture and Tropical Studies in Iragbiji, Osun State. The bill, sponsored by the Senate Leader, was passed for its first and second readings within an hour. The proposed university aims to address educational needs and train agricultural experts in Nigeria. It will focus on developing agriculture and tropical studies, equipping students with skills to contribute to agricultural growth, increase farmers’ incomes, and create employment. The institution will promote learning for all individuals and catalyze postgraduate training, research, and innovation in utilizing Nigeria’s agricultural resources effectively. The bill was referred to the Committee on Tertiary Education and TETFUND for further review after the Senate debate.
