To mark the occasion of World Teachers Day in 2024, the Minister of Education emphasized the importance of resilience among Nigerian teachers in the face of challenges. He assured them that their dedication and hard work will be acknowledged and rewarded in due time on earth, not just in heaven.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, the Minister, represented by the Permanent Secretary, recognized the significant contributions of teachers in shaping individuals and fostering human capital development. He highlighted the government’s efforts to support teachers’ professionalism and enhance their roles in nation-building.
Encouraging teachers to embrace modern teaching methods, research, and technology, the Minister commended their passion and dedication, even in adverse conditions. He expressed gratitude to stakeholders and international partners for their support in advancing the teaching profession.
The government’s commitment to the welfare of teachers was underscored, with initiatives such as specialized universities of education, bursary schemes, and bilateral agreements for international engagements through the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).
Recognizing the challenges faced by teachers and the importance of a conducive work environment, the Minister urged all stakeholders to prioritize teachers’ voices and welfare. He emphasized the value of teachers’ contributions and expressed hope that they would be duly rewarded for their excellence and dedication.
