The Academic Staff Union of Universities at Sa’adu Zungur University in Bauchi State is set to disclose the names of thirty PhD holders who have resigned from the institution. The announcement came from the ASUU-SAZU branch chairperson in response to a statement made by the university’s Public Relations Officer. The ASUU representative criticized the university’s response and highlighted discrepancies regarding the acknowledgment of deceased academic staff members. The union expressed concerns over the treatment of departed staff and hinted at potential consequences such as staff reconsidering their positions at the university or seeking opportunities elsewhere.
The ASUU-SAZU chairperson emphasized the significance of acknowledging the departure of PhD holders and raised issues regarding the working conditions that may have contributed to the resignations. The situation has prompted the Bauchi State House of Assembly to investigate the mass exodus of PhD holders from the university allegedly due to inadequate remuneration and benefits. The assembly is seeking clarity on the matter and plans to engage with relevant authorities to address the challenges facing Sa’adu Zungur University.
