Protest, explosion rock Rivers LGs as Fubara’s chairmen resume

The political unrest in Rivers State escalated as new explosions and demonstrations erupted in several local government areas. The recent events are a result of the Inspector General of Police’s directive to unseal the secretariats of the 23 LGs and withdraw the police presence that had been there since July. In Eleme LGA, a secretariat was set on fire, with buildings and vehicles going up in flames due to a suspected dynamite explosion. Similarly, in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA, protesters disrupted the council headquarters in Omoku, preventing the newly appointed chairman from assuming office. More information on this developing situation will be provided later.
