In an effort to tackle cultism and other societal challenges threatening peace and security in Imo State, the police command has carried out targeted operations resulting in the arrest of seven individuals suspected of involvement in cult activities.
The police spokesperson, Henry Okoye, disclosed that a recent operation led to the apprehension of five suspects engaged in initiation rituals at a suspected cultist hideout in Irete. The raid yielded a locally made shotgun, live cartridges, Cannabis Sativa, and a dagger.
The arrested individuals, aged between 19 and 25, confessed to being part of the New Black Movement of Africa and revealed they were coerced into cultism by someone known as Black Face.
Further efforts by the Orji Divisional Headquarters led to the arrest of two more suspected cultists near the Imo State University. The suspects, both 22 years old, were found in possession of a locally made pistol, live cartridges, and suspected Cannabis Sativa. They admitted to being members of the Black Axe confraternity.
The police assured the public of ongoing investigations and the commitment to prosecute those involved in cult-related crimes. The Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, emphasized the need for parents to discourage their children from joining cult groups and to promote positive activities that foster community well-being and a peaceful society.
