The Senate has approved Professor Abdullahi Usman as the Executive Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, as proposed by the President. Usman’s nomination was confirmed after the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs reviewed and accepted the report. The President nominated Usman on August 19, 2024, and subsequently submitted the request for confirmation to the Senate.
Usman is recognized as a knowledgeable scholar with substantial experience in hajj operations, previously serving as the chairman of Kano State Pilgrim’s Board. Senator Bello, the Chair of the committee, stated that Usman is well-suited to lead the nation’s apex Hajj Body based on his qualifications. The Senate president conducted a voice vote, affirming Usman’s confirmation.
