Lagos task force probes Customs officer extortion after PUNCH report

The Lagos State Task Force is currently looking into a case involving an alleged extortion of a Nigeria Customs Service officer by some of its officers. The incident took place in the Bolade area of Lagos State, where the officer, known as Cyril, claimed that he was extorted N200,000 after his car was damaged by the task force officials in the Apapa area.

The spokesperson for the task force, Raheem Gbadeyanka, confirmed that an investigation has been launched into the matter. He has urged the victim to step forward and help identify the officers involved in collecting money from him.

Cyril recounted his experience, stating that his car was damaged by the officials while they were making an arrest near the Warehouse Road junction in the Mile 2 area. He expressed dismay at being asked to pay N200,000 in cash as a fine, suspecting foul play due to the circumstances surrounding the incident.
