A man aged 24, identified as Usman Mohammed Iyal, admitted to the police his involvement in a disturbing incident where he raped a 16-year-old girl and then threw her into a well in Ambassadors Quarters, Katsina State. His motive was to prevent the victim from revealing his identity. The confession occurred during a public presentation of the suspect alongside others at the Katsina State Police Command headquarters. Fortunately, swift police action led to the rescue of the victim from the well without harm.
The incident took place on September 27, 2024, as the victim was running an errand for her mother. Armed with a knife, the suspect accosted the girl, threatened her, and forcibly took her to an unfinished building where he committed the assault. The police were able to arrest the suspect following a report by the victim’s father to the GRA Divisional Police Headquarters. The victim is currently receiving medical attention.
In a separate case on September 19, 2024, a woman named Binta Muhammed, aged 35, was apprehended by the police for allegedly mistreating a two-year-old boy in Lungun Loma quarters, Dutsinma LGA, Katsina State. The child was found tied up in a room and was promptly rescued and taken to the hospital for medical care. The suspect confessed to the crime and will face charges after the investigation concludes.
Additionally, on September 25, 2024, three individuals, Sabi’u Hassan (34 years old), Isiya Salisu (30 years old), and Aliyu Haruna (20 years old), were arrested for suspected involvement in vandalism and theft. They were intercepted by police and vigilantes in possession of stolen items. The suspects admitted to their actions and implicated four others who are currently evading arrest. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects.
