Mother faints as police nab 14-year-old for stealing cable

A 14-year-old student was caught by security officers at Lekan Salami Sports Complex in Ibadan, Oyo State for allegedly stealing wire and cables within the complex. The student, a JSS 2 student of Eleyele High School, was reportedly pilfering items in the main bowl of the stadium during a training session of the Shooting Star Football Club of Ibadan. He confessed to breaking the pipes with a stone to cut camera cables and wires connecting the canopy light, with intentions to sell them. The estimated value of the stolen items was said to be N300,000. The boy’s mother, upon seeing her son being handcuffed, fainted and was revived by stadium workers. The General Manager of the state Sports Council confirmed the incident and stated that the boy had been handed over to the police for further investigation. The state Commissioner for Youth and Sports visited the scene of the incident and emphasized the need for increased vigilance and security measures at the sports complex to prevent similar incidents in the future.
