The Enugu State Government recently took action to demolish a known kidnappers’ hideout situated in Nike, Enugu East Local Government Area, as part of its ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping in the state. The twin semi-detached bungalows in Nokpa were reportedly used as a location to hold kidnap victims until ransom payments were made. This move was made in accordance with the Criminal Code Law of Enugu State.
During a briefing after the operation, the Chairman of the Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority emphasized the government’s commitment to eradicating kidnapping and violent crime. He mentioned a recent incident where criminals abducted individuals and held them in the den, attempting to secure ransom payments. Thankfully, security forces were able to track and apprehend the criminals before they could escape to another state.
The Chairman highlighted the recovery of weapons, charms, and drugs from the criminals, emphasizing that the government will not tolerate criminal activities in the state. Any property linked to kidnapping or armed robbery will be demolished in accordance with the law. Landlords were also advised to be vigilant in screening tenants and reporting any suspicious activities on their properties promptly.
Overall, the government’s stance is clear – criminal elements in Enugu State will face consequences, and efforts to secure the lives and property of residents will continue unabated.
