The Jubril Martins-Kuye Foundation recently announced the award of N5 million in bursaries to 21 medical students at Olabisi Onabanjo University. The beneficiaries, all from the Ijebu-North Local Government Area, were the first recipients of this bursary scheme sponsored by Gbolahan Martins-Kuye, a family physician and son of the late ex-Minister of State for Finance, Jubril Martins-Kuye.
Gbolahan Martins-Kuye expressed his commitment to investing in the education of medical students from his community. He emphasized that the bursary award is a way to encourage and support the students in pursuing their dreams while contributing to the healthcare sector.
The bursary scheme aims to sustain academic excellence among the students, with the potential for ongoing support based on their academic performance and dedication to their studies. The project coordinator, Mr. Emmanuel Ugwu, highlighted the importance of the scheme for Ijebu North indigenes studying medicine at OOU, urging the beneficiaries to remain focused on their education.
During the event, the National President of Ijebu Descendants commended Gbolahan Martins-Kuye for his support to the students, acknowledging his commitment to education and community development. The beneficiaries, represented by Obabi Zainab Ayomide and Ogundipe Timothy, expressed gratitude for the bursary award, noting its significant impact on their educational pursuits.
The late Jubril Martins-Kuye, fondly known as JMK, had a distinguished career in government, serving as a minister under former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan. His legacy of supporting education and community development continues through initiatives like the bursary scheme.
