The Abia State Police Command issued a statement clarifying the situation surrounding the arrest of the Labour Party’s National Vice Chairman for the South-East, Ceekay Igara. The arrest followed a petition from the party’s acting state chairman, accusing Igara of impersonation. Igara, along with three others, was invited for questioning on allegations including conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, impersonation, and obtaining by false pretence. Igara was released the same day after providing his statement to detectives. The investigation is ongoing, as confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Maureen Chinaka. There were demands from the party’s leadership for Igara’s release, but the police statement did not mention any involvement of the Abia Governor in the arrest.
