Cardoso canvasses more skilled finance graduates

The importance of addressing the shortage of skilled professionals in finance-related disciplines across Nigerian universities was emphasized by the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr Olayemi Cardoso.

During a strategic meeting at the CBN headquarters in Abuja, Cardoso reiterated the commitment to developing the next generation of leaders in the financial and social sciences sectors.

He highlighted the significance of empowering young professionals with relevant skills to enhance the competitiveness of the financial sector and drive Nigeria’s economic growth through the Financial System Strategy.

Advocating for mentorship programs, Cardoso stressed the importance of collaboration between the CBN, Nigerian Economic Society (NES), and Nigerian Economics Students Association (NESA) to equip students with the necessary knowledge for success in the sector.

Simplifying economic concepts for effective communication on monetary policies was another focal point, with Cardoso emphasizing the role of young economists in making these concepts more accessible to the public.

The commitment to collaboration between CBN, NES, and NESA to promote innovation, diversity, and female representation in the sector was reaffirmed by the governor.

Prof Adeola Adenikinju from the Nigerian Economic Society expressed the society’s interest in deeper collaboration with the CBN, particularly in areas such as research support, internships, and workshops, and emphasized the need for enhanced communication of economic policies through social media.
