Starting November 1, 2024, the cost of a one-way flight ticket from Lagos to Abuja with Air Peace will be N200,000.
The aviation industry is feeling the strain of the challenging economic conditions, leading to airlines raising their ticket prices, much to the dismay of passengers.
This situation has prompted some Nigerians to opt for road travel over air travel.
Recent checks reveal that Air Peace has set the highest fare among domestic airlines at N200,000 for the Lagos to Abuja route starting in November.
In comparison, Aero is charging between N94,000 and over N109,000, Arik Air’s fares range from N104,405 to N139,292, and Ibom Air is priced between N124,000 and over N133,000.
The surge in airfares has caused inconvenience for many passengers who have found themselves unable to secure flights to their destinations.
The popular routes such as Lagos-Abuja and Abuja-Lagos are experiencing the brunt of this issue, with many passengers struggling to find available seats.
An anonymous Air Peace official confirmed the fare increase, attributing it to the worsening economic conditions in Nigeria.
The official stated that the escalating operational costs have put a significant strain on the aviation company, leading to the necessary fare adjustments.
Efforts to reach the Chief Operating Officer of the company, Toyin Olajide, were unsuccessful as calls and messages were left unanswered.
A frequent flyer, Adeleke Aina, expressed his frustration over the continuous rise in airfares, indicating that he may resort to road transport due to the escalating costs.
“The continuous increase in airfares without a clear justification other than economic challenges is becoming unsustainable. The government needs to address these issues to prevent further disruptions in the transportation sector,” he added.
