The Osun State Commands of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Nigeria Police Force had a disagreement after an incident where an NSCDC personnel was assaulted allegedly by some police officers while on guard duty. The NSCDC officer, known as Owoeye, was reportedly assaulted and detained by the police following the altercation. Video clips circulated showing a man in a police jacket assaulting the NSCDC personnel, who managed to disarm the assailant. In response, the police claimed that the incident occurred when they were trying to arrest a suspect at an estate in Osogbo, and NSCDC personnel obstructed them, leading to a physical confrontation. On the other hand, the NSCDC spokesperson stated that individuals claiming to be police officers in plain clothes arrived at the estate, refused to provide proper identification, and then returned the next day with a group of officers who assaulted the NSCDC personnel, resulting in one officer being severely harmed. Efforts to resolve the issue amicably were made but the detained NSCDC officer was only released after enduring mistreatment. The NSCDC Commandant demanded a thorough investigation to ensure justice for the perpetrators.
