Madugu expects Falcons’ masterclass against Algeria

The interim coach of the Super Falcons is anticipating a strong performance from his predominantly home-based team as they take on Algeria in the first leg of an international friendly at Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne. The second leg is scheduled for Tuesday at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, marking Nigeria’s first Grade A friendlies on home soil since the 2021 Aisha Buhari Women’s Tournament.

After a disappointing Olympics campaign, where they lost all three group matches, the coach is focused on rebuilding the team’s confidence. He expressed satisfaction with the players’ commitment and discipline during training sessions since their resumption.

The coach plans to use a 4-4-2 formation, including both home-based and foreign professional players like captain Rasheedat Ajibade, goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, defenders Chidinma Okeke, and Oluwatosin Demehin, as well as midfielder Esther Onyenezide and striker Gift Monday.

The squad will see 19 domestic league players vying for remaining spots, with the possibility of up to 11 changes during the matches.

Both teams will be escorted to Ikenne for the first leg match before returning to Lagos for the second leg on Tuesday.

These matches offer an opportunity for Nigeria Women’s Football League players to compete for spots in the senior national team, marking a potential new era for the Super Falcons as described by the coach.
