Late Indian billionaire, Tata, names dog beneficiary in will

An Indian billionaire, who recently passed away at the age of 86, surprised many by naming his dog, Tito, as a beneficiary in his will worth Rs 10,000 crore. The industrialist’s will ensures that Tito receives unlimited care under the supervision of his trusted cook, Rajan Shaw, who has been caring for the pet for years.

This unique provision in the will highlights the deep bond between the late billionaire and his beloved dog, whom he adopted nearly six years ago. The funds allocated in the will guarantee Tito’s well-being for the rest of his life.

While Tito is a beneficiary, the primary recipient of the billionaire’s fortune will be the Ratan Tata Endowment Foundation, established in 2022 to continue his philanthropic endeavors. The foundation will inherit Tata’s stakes in various companies, allowing it to continue his legacy of social welfare.

Family members, including Tata’s son and current chairman of RTEF, as well as his brother, half-sisters, and long-time staff, are also beneficiaries of the will. Additionally, Tata’s confidant and executive assistant will receive a share, as Tata reportedly forgave a personal loan and relinquished his stake in a startup.

The fate of Tata’s extensive car collection, comprising luxury vehicles stored at his Colaba residence, is yet to be decided. Options being considered include auctioning the cars or creating a public display in honor of Tata’s life and contributions.

The will is currently pending probate at the Bombay High Court and is expected to receive legal confirmation soon, ensuring that all of Tata’s wishes, from his philanthropic pursuits to Tito’s care, are upheld.
