Kwara Anglican Diocese boosts mechanised farming

The Kwara Diocese of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has initiated a significant agricultural project to enhance food security and sufficiency within the country.

During a press briefing in Ilorin, the Bishop of the Anglican Church, Rt Revd Sunday Adewole, announced plans to cultivate cassava and maize on a 25-hectare land in the upcoming farming season. The aim of this venture is to promote youth employment, capacity building, and alleviate economic challenges faced by members of the church and the public.

Notably, a generous female member donated 500 bags of fertilizers to support the agricultural initiative, marking it as a foundational project for the next five decades.

In addition to the agricultural project, the church has also acquired land for the construction of a 3,500-capacity event hall in Ilorin by 2025. Plans are underway to enhance a skill acquisition center established by women in the church with necessary equipment, shops, and financial support.

Discussing the current sociopolitical climate, Bishop Adewole attributed challenges to both leadership and followership in the country. He acknowledged the government’s efforts to address these issues while emphasizing the collective responsibility of citizens in improving the nation’s condition.
