The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is deeply saddened by the recent passing of two of his political associates.
Abdulrahman Lekki, the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Scholarship Board, passed away after a brief illness and was laid to rest on the same day in accordance with Islamic customs. Additionally, Oladotun Olakanle, also known as Tant’olorun, the Chairman of Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area, passed away at the age of 54 after a short illness.
In statements released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed his condolences for the loss of Lekki and Oladotun.
Regarding Lekki, the Governor mentioned, “I am saddened by the loss of Abdulrahman Lekki, who was dedicated to empowering young people through education. He will be greatly missed, and may his soul rest in peace.”
In his tribute to Oladotun, the Governor described him as a loyal party member, democrat, and knowledgeable public servant, acknowledging his contributions to local government administration and politics.
Lekki’s daughter, Haneefah Abdur-Rahman, also expressed her family’s gratitude for the outpouring of support and requested prayers for her father’s soul. A special prayer session was held in memory of Lekki at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium in Ikeja.
Various organizations, including the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (Lagos State Area Unit), Muslim Public Affairs Centre, and the Hijab Rights Advocacy Initiative, joined in mourning the loss of Lekki.
