UNDEFEATED A Nigerian featherweight boxer known as Taiwo ‘Esepo’ Agbaje is set to challenge Tanzanian fighter Loren Japhet for the vacant World Boxing Federation world featherweight title on December 7 at the Diete Spiff Civic Centre in Port Harcourt.
Agbaje, with an impressive record of 16 wins and 11 knockouts, will be the main event at the ‘Simplified Rumble in Rivers for Champions’ event, facing Japhet in a 12-round bout.
The event, organized by Zeus Sports and Entertainment, will include 10 fights, featuring a comeback bout for former world heavyweight contender Ike ‘The President’ Ibeabuchi against Egypt’s Sammy Abdalla after a period of incarceration in the USA.
Additionally, former WBC Super Featherweight Silver Champion Elizabeth Oshoba will compete against Egypt’s Hargar Mohammed, and ex-WBO International light middleweight champion King Davidson will face Ayman Mohammed from Egypt.
Former National and West African light heavyweight champion Jude ‘Great Jude’ Iloh will also be part of the main card, taking on Angola’s Lando Henriques.
The event has received support from notable figures, including the Amanyanagbo of Okochiri kingdom, King Ateke Tom, who has taken on the role of patron for the event.
“I particularly enjoy boxing and follow it closely. If I were younger, I would participate in the fights because I enjoy challenges,” King Tom expressed.
Several sports and entertainment personalities are expected to attend the event, including Finidi George, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, Flavour, and Burna Boy.
Former Nigeria goalkeeper Peterside Idah believes the event will bring a positive impact to Rivers State.
“Often, when people talk about Rivers State, it’s all about politics and conflicts. But events like this, such as the recent international marathon, have a calming effect on society,” Idah remarked.
