The Police Commissioner of Ondo State, Abayomi Oladipupo, recently announced that the state police command is fully prepared for the upcoming governorship election scheduled for November 16. As part of their readiness, the command initiated a training program for officers in anticipation of the election. The training, which took place over two days, aimed to enhance the professionalism of the officers during the off-cycle poll.
During the training held at the Officers’ Mess in Akure, Oladipupo highlighted that the program was established under the guidance of the Inspector General of Police to equip officers of all ranks with the necessary skills for the upcoming election. The training covered various topics such as the roles of the police during elections as outlined in the Electoral Act of 2022, human rights, and general policing responsibilities.
Emphasizing the significance of the training, Oladipupo urged the officers to make the most of the opportunity provided by the Inspector General of Police to understand their duties clearly and perform them with professionalism and integrity. A consulting firm, represented by Johnson Ategihe, shared that the goal of the training program was to address security challenges in the state and ensure a secure environment for all stakeholders involved in the election process.
The focus of the program was to mitigate potential violence, strengthen officer capacity, and promote a level playing field for all participants. The aim was to facilitate a free and fair election where stakeholders can engage confidently without disruptions, ultimately leading to a peaceful and credible election outcome.
