Customs intercept 16 containers of illicit drugs

The Tincan Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service announced the interception of 16 containers holding illicit substances, unregistered pharmaceutical products, and other items with a duty-paid value of N4bn. The Customs Area Controller highlighted that the command collected a record-breaking total revenue of N1.046tn between January and November 7, 2024, attributing this success to stakeholder cooperation. Some containers seized contained cough syrups with codeine, barcadin, broncleer, and other drugs. Additionally, items like ceiling fans, chilli cutters, and blenders were found in the containers. The intercepted drugs originated from countries like India, the United Kingdom, and Canada. The command also handed over a significant amount of Cannabis Indica, emphasizing their commitment to collaboration with other agencies to combat illegal imports. The Customs boss pledged to use all available resources to prevent the influx of unregistered pharmaceutical products into the country. With the festive season approaching, the command assured compliant traders of smooth cargo delivery while warning non-compliant individuals of strict enforcement measures.
