The Enugu Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recently announced the arrest of two Chinese nationals for attempting to export solid minerals without a permit. The EFCC received a tip-off from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, leading to the apprehension of the Chinese nationals, along with two Nigerians, at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu.
One of the Chinese nationals, Jiang, was found with suspicious stones believed to be solid minerals in his luggage. Investigations revealed that the Nigerian suspects were employees of a construction company owned by one of the Chinese nationals. None of the suspects had the necessary permit to export the minerals.
In a separate incident, two Nigerians were arrested in Abuja for suspected money laundering and internet-related crimes. The suspects were found in possession of luxury items like vehicles, laptops, and smartphones. The EFCC stated that the suspects would face charges once investigations are completed.
