An official from Delta State, Sunday Ofehe, highlighted that the state is missing out on an annual revenue of N26bn due to underutilization of its natural and geographical assets.
He shared this insight during the launch of the National Business Masterclass event in Lagos on Friday.
The event, organized by Top3 Solutions in collaboration with the Institute of Certified Business Consultants Canada and Optiss Capital, focused on strategies for enhancing the competitiveness of Nigerian businesses in global markets.
Ofehe, who previously ran for governorship in the state and now serves as the Executive Assistant on External Relations, underscored the untapped opportunities in Delta, especially in the Gulf of Guinea region where valuable resources are not fully harnessed.
He pointed out the state’s 65 square kilometers of coastline designated for fisheries, expressing concern over the lack of policies safeguarding these resources and ensuring local communities benefit from them.
“We have the potential to generate at least N26bn annually. We have 65 square kilometers of coastline dedicated to fishing. I won’t mention specific countries, but I know that some come at night, while we’re asleep, to take our fish away,” Ofehe remarked, drawing attention to the vulnerability of Delta’s natural riches.
