Lagos-Calabar highway: Property owners to sue FG over N18bn compensation

The Coalition for Land Rights Advocacy in Nigeria is preparing to take legal action against the Federal Government regarding what they believe is inadequate compensation for affected individuals. The coalition’s spokesperson mentioned that if the Minister of Works does not address their concerns, they will pursue the matter in court on behalf of those impacted by the project.

The coalition highlighted that despite attempts to resolve the issues through communication, the Minister of Works has not responded adequately. They criticized the handling of compensation disputes, accusing the government of coercion and disregard for legal rights. The coalition emphasized the importance of fair compensation as mandated by laws and criticized the Minister’s lack of cooperation in resolving the matter through dialogue.

Additionally, the coalition sought the intervention of the President to address the situation. They also mentioned the discrepancy in the budget for compensation for a specific highway section and the rejection of the compensation offer by affected individuals due to its perceived inadequacy.
