AFCON qualifier: Simon, Chukwueze, six others among early birds in Abidjan

Moses Simon and Samuel Chukwueze were among the first players to arrive at the Super Eagles’ camp in Coted’Ivoire for their upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Benin Republic. Alongside them, six other players also joined the camp in Abidjan on Monday. The team’s Media Officer confirmed that eight players had arrived with more expected on Tuesday.

The squad, including Captain William Ekong, Ademola Lookman, Victor Osimhen, and others, is gearing up to secure six points against Benin Republic and Rwanda in the final qualifying matches this month. The camp officially opened in Abidjan as they prepare to face Benin Republic at the Stade Felix-Houphouet-Boigny on Thursday before traveling to Uyo for the game against Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Monday.

The Super Eagles are currently leading Group D and need just a point against Benin Republic to secure a spot in the final tournament. With a solid record of seven goals scored and none conceded, thanks to a previous disciplinary ruling, they are in a strong position compared to Rwanda, who have a one-goal deficit and five points going into the final matches.
