The recent incident of bullying and physical assault at a school in Enugu has been strongly condemned by the Enugu State Government. The Commissioner for Education, Prof Ndubueze Mbah, emphasized the government’s zero-tolerance policy for such behavior in educational settings.
The government has directed the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the act, highlighting the importance of ensuring safety and well-being in schools. The state government is working with the Federal Ministry of Education to ensure appropriate sanctions are applied.
In a statement, the government reiterated its commitment to prioritizing the safety and welfare of students, citing significant investments in the education sector. The government stated that bullying and abuse have no place in schools and perpetrators will face consequences.
Educational institutions in the state have been reminded of their role in ensuring student safety and well-being. The government warned against harassment, intimidation, and violence that go against the core values of respect, equality, and freedom for students.
The Parent-Teacher Association of the school clarified that the incident was not related to cultism but stemmed from a student bringing Indian hemp into the school. The association emphasized its commitment to maintaining a secure and conducive learning environment for all students.
