Ahead of the upcoming governorship election in Ondo State, a ‘mega’ rally is set to take place today in support of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s candidature. The rally will be led by Vice President Kashim Shettima, governors from the All Progressives Congress, national chairman Abdullai Ganduje, and other party stalwarts at the MKO Abiola Democracy Park in Akure.
A total of 17 political parties will be participating in the election, including the ruling All Progressives Congress, Peoples Democratic Party, and several others. The campaign activities have heightened tensions between the PDP and APC in Ondo State, with allegations of election rigging being exchanged.
Despite the accusations, the APC denies any plans to compromise the election, expressing confidence in Governor Aiyedatiwa’s candidacy. Supporters of the APC candidate believe he will emerge victorious due to the lack of a strong opposition and his ability to provide for the people’s needs.
On the other hand, PDP leader Atiku Abubakar has thrown his support behind the PDP candidate, Agboola Ajayi, urging residents to vote for change. The Inter-Party Advisory Council has called for peaceful elections and urged stakeholders to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process.
All 17 political parties contesting the election will inspect INEC’s sensitive materials, including ballot papers and voter accreditation systems, ahead of the election scheduled for Saturday.INEC has confirmed the arrival of these materials in Akure and their subsequent distribution to the 18 Local Government Areas.
