AS Roma has officially announced the appointment of Claudio Ranieri as the new Head Coach of the First Team, marking the return of a beloved figure to the club. In a statement released by AS Roma, it was mentioned that Ranieri, a lifelong fan of Roma and former player, will lead the team for the remainder of the season before moving into a senior executive role to offer advice on sporting matters.
Ranieri, who previously coached Roma from 2009 to 2011 and again in 2019, is highly regarded in the football world. The club expressed that he embodies the values of the club and is a respected sports figure in Rome and beyond.
With vast experience in top European leagues like Serie A, the Premier League, La Liga, and Ligue 1, Ranieri brings a wealth of knowledge to AS Roma, including winning historic titles such as the legendary 2016 triumph with Leicester City. The club wished him well in this new chapter of his career, believing he will be a valuable asset to the team.
Ranieri takes over from Ivan Juric, who was appointed in September after the departure of former captain Daniele De Rossi but was relieved of his duties following a 3-2 home loss to Bologna. Juric’s tenure was challenging, managing only four wins in 12 matches across all competitions. This left Roma in 12th place in Serie A, just four points above the relegation zone.
