Nigeria secured their spot in the 2025 AFCON in Morocco ahead of schedule, thanks to Libya’s victory over Rwanda. The 1-0 win by Libya in Kigali ensured Nigeria’s qualification with two games remaining, as reported by Sports Extra.
Libya’s late goal from Saad Mohamed in the 84th minute against Rwanda not only boosted their own chances but also solidified Nigeria’s place in the upcoming tournament, marking their 21st appearance at the AFCON.
The Super Eagles were set to face Benin Republic in a crucial match but had already secured their qualification due to Libya’s result, sparing them from any last-minute pressure.
Nigeria, a three-time African champion, will be aiming to add to their AFCON titles won in 1980, 1994, and 2013. Despite finishing as runners-up in the 2023 edition, the team is determined to perform well in the upcoming tournament.
With the top spot in their group almost guaranteed, Nigeria’s focus now shifts to their remaining match against Rwanda as they prepare for the tournament scheduled from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
As for Rwanda and Libya in Group D, there is still a slim chance for them to secure a place in the AFCON 2025, with hopes resting on their upcoming matches.
