A representative from Nigeria, Chidimma Adetshina, achieved the first runner-up position at the 73rd Miss Universe Competition held in Mexico.
The final stage of the event in Mexico City witnessed a captivating showdown between Nigeria and Denmark as they vied for the crown.
The competition, known for showcasing the talents and elegance of women worldwide, was described as one of the most exciting in recent memory.
The organizers shared on Instagram, “The final two! Nigeria and Denmark, two incredible women, one unforgettable moment.”
Miss Denmark, Victoria Kjaer Theilvig, emerged as the winner, succeeding Miss Universe 2023, Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua.
Despite the outcome, Adetshina’s remarkable performance and grace garnered praise from both judges and viewers.
Prior to this, Adetshina withdrew from the Miss South Africa 2024 contest after reaching the final stage due to concerns raised about her nationality.
Nonetheless, Adetshina went on to represent Taraba State and clinch the title of Miss Universe Nigeria.
This achievement echoes Nigeria’s past successes, notably when Agbani Darego became the first Black African to win the prestigious Miss World title on November 16, 2001, at the age of 18.
Agbani’s victory not only made her a role model for beauty in Nigeria but also marked a significant moment for the country and the continent.
