Hoopers retain NPBL title, pick BAL ticket

A Nigerian basketball team, Rivers Hoopers, secured their spot in the 2025 Basketball Africa League after winning the Nigeria Premier Basketball League title. They dominated the playoffs final, defeating Hoops and Read Basketball Club with a score of 71-54 in Port Harcourt.

Kelvin Amayo of Rivers Hoopers delivered an outstanding performance with 29 points, two assists, and one rebound. He contributed significantly to the team’s victory, scoring 20 points in the first half. This win marked the sixth league title for the Port Harcourt club.

Finishing their 2024 NBPL season flawlessly, the King’s Men achieved a remarkable record of 12 wins in 12 games from the Conference finals to the playoffs.

Despite a strong effort from Lagos club Hoops and Read, Rivers Hoopers maintained their lead throughout the game. The first quarter ended 24-18 in favor of Hoopers, and they continued to dominate, finishing the game at 71-54.

Having previously made history by being the first Nigerian team to reach the podium at the BAL, Rivers Hoopers will return to the competition after their victory over Cape Town Tigers earlier this year.
