Man Utd revenue falls as Champions League absence takes toll

Manchester United faced a decrease in total revenue by £14 million ($17.6 million), dropping to £143.1 million due to their absence from the Champions League. However, they reported a net profit of £1.4 million for the period from July to September, a significant improvement from the £25.8 million loss in the same period last year, attributed to favorable foreign exchange rates. The team finished eighth in the Premier League last season, missing out on the Champions League, leading to a 20.4 percent decrease in broadcasting revenue. They are now competing in the Europa League after winning the FA Cup last season. Commercial revenue decreased by 5.6 percent, and matchday revenue dropped by 3.3 percent. The club incurred “exceptional” costs of £8.6 million related to restructuring, including a redundancy scheme. INEOS group took over football operations, implementing cost-saving measures and job cuts. The club’s chief executive confirmed ongoing cost reductions and renovation plans for the training ground. Despite record revenues, United ended the previous financial year with net losses. They predict total revenue for 2025 to be between £650 million and £670 million. The new manager, Ruben Amorim, led his first game resulting in a draw. Currently, United is in 12th place in the Premier League standings, six points away from the top four.
