During the 17th convocation lecture at Lead City University in Ibadan, the former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Abel Olayinka, advocated for a review of the legislation that prevents private universities from benefiting from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund. Olayinka emphasized that private universities, although not government-established, serve the public good and contribute to the country’s development by producing students who partake in national service programs. He highlighted the importance of private sector involvement in education to supplement government efforts in providing quality education to citizens. Olayinka stressed that while education is both a public and private good, private universities play a crucial role in meeting the increasing demand for higher education. The Vice Chancellor of Lead City University, Prof. Kabir Adeyemi, echoed the need for collaborative efforts to address challenges in higher education and empower future generations.
