The association representing Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners in Nigeria disclosed that the Port Harcourt refinery is set to sell petrol at N1,030 per liter, confirming the refinery’s operational status as announced by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC). According to a spokesperson for the association, NNPC Retail Ltd officially communicated the price of premium motor spirit at the refurbished refinery and opened a portal for product booking. The association is currently evaluating pricing strategies for its members and expressed readiness to engage with all refineries in the country.
PETROAN also called on NNPC Retail to consider further reducing the price in light of the upcoming festive season. Additionally, the association addressed speculations regarding the refinery’s functionality, emphasizing that the old Port Harcourt refinery is operational and producing petroleum products. Recent visits by NNPC management, the Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources, and stakeholders confirmed the refinery’s functionality and production activities.
Regarding future plans, PETROAN expressed support for the proposed privatization of government-owned refineries, advocating for a transparent and credible process to hand over operations to a financially and technically capable private entity. The association highlighted concerns about the condition of the Eleme East-west road, urging the Federal Ministry of Works to expedite repairs to ensure safe transportation of petroleum products from the refinery depots.
