A cryptocurrency entrepreneur from China, Justin Sun, recently fulfilled his promise to eat the banana from the controversial artwork Comedian, valued at $6.2 million (£4.9 million).

The artwork, crafted by Maurizio Cattelan in 2019, depicts a banana duct-taped to a wall, and Sun acquired it at a Sotheby’s auction in New York after outbidding six other bidders.

The cost of the fresh banana on that day was a mere 35 cents, but it has now become one of the most expensive fruits globally.
