The Nigeria Armed Forces emerged as the leading team in the 2nd Africa Military Games 2024, taking home a total of 234 medals as the event concluded. The team secured 114 gold, 65 silver, and 45 bronze across 21 different sports. Following closely behind was Algeria in second place with 96 medals, including 53 gold, 22 silver, and 21 bronze. Kenya claimed the third spot with 59 medals, consisting of 21 gold, 17 silver, and 12 bronze.
Additional countries in the top rankings included Ghana, Ethiopia, and Tunisia in fourth, fifth, and sixth place, respectively. South Africa, Libya, and Uganda secured the seventh, eighth, and ninth positions, with Tanzania rounding out the top ten.
During the closing ceremony, the president of the Organisation of Military Sports in Africa, Maj.-Gen. Abdullahi Maikano, praised the games as a significant display of cooperation and unity among African Armed Forces. He highlighted the exceptional skills, determination, and sportsmanship showcased by athletes, emphasizing the values of unity and camaraderie that the games promoted.
Maikano commended the Nigerian military authorities for their support and encouraged all participating nations to continue fostering the bonds of friendship and cooperation established during the competition. He expressed hope that the spirit of collaboration and mutual respect exhibited during the African Games would inspire lasting peace and unity among nations.
