The police in Osun State have apprehended a suspect linked to the killing of a farmer named Sikiru Onaolapo, who was fatally shot on his farm in the Oke Ekutu area, a disputed territory between Ilobu and Ifon-Orolu communities. The incident sparked tension in Ilobu when Onaolapo’s body was brought to the Olobu of Ilobu’s palace.
Distraught residents aired their concerns on social media, calling for swift action from the authorities to prevent retaliation. A community representative, Otun Jagun of Ilobu, accused a man from Ifon of the murder. However, the Ifon-Orolu Progressives Union denied the allegation, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the arrest of a suspect and assured the public of ongoing efforts to maintain peace. Additional law enforcement personnel have been deployed to the area, and the Commissioner of Police has been mediating between the communities.
Opalola refrained from disclosing the suspect’s identity but assured that investigations are underway to bring the perpetrators to justice. She urged the public to remain calm and cooperative during the investigation process.
