Ex-Edo gov aspirant Imasuagbon resigns from Labour Party

A previous candidate for governorship in Edo State under the Labour Party, Kenneth Imasuagbon, has decided to step down from his position within the party. His resignation was detailed in a letter dated Wednesday, December 4, 2024, directed to the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, and shared with the Ward 2 Chairman in Ewohimi, Esan South-East Local Government Area of the state.

Imasuagbon, who has been affiliated with both the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party in the past, expressed his reasons for leaving, citing ongoing divisions and a lack of internal democracy within the party. He emphasized that the party had strayed from its fundamental values and could no longer offer a reliable alternative for Nigerians.

As a Nigerian and resident of Edo State, Imasuagbon highlighted his 25 years of dedication to leadership development and philanthropic endeavors. He stated that it was necessary for him to distance himself from the turmoil and authoritarianism of the party’s leadership.

In his words, “I am officially resigning from the Labour Party. After extensive consultations with my numerous supporters across the state, it has become essential for me and my followers to take this step.

“It is evident that the Labour Party has failed to evolve and is not committed to establishing effective leadership at all levels. Internal conflicts and power struggles have fostered a negative atmosphere, challenging members’ loyalty.

“The prevailing situation indicates a lack of competent leadership, poor management, absence of foresight, and authoritative decision-making. An examination of the party today reveals the departure of many prominent founding members.”

Imasuagbon notably lost the party’s governorship nomination to Olumide Akpata, a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, prior to the 2024 governorship election, where the Labour Party finished in third place.
