In a surprising turn of events, the French Prime Minister faced a no-confidence vote and was ousted from office just three months after assuming the position. This has plunged France into a state of political turmoil. The vote saw 331 out of 577 lawmakers voting against the Prime Minister’s centrist government, marking the first time a Prime Minister has been removed through such a motion since 1962.
The downfall of the Prime Minister came after a controversial decision to push through the 2025 budget using a constitutional loophole, which bypassed a parliamentary vote and sparked widespread outrage among politicians. Appointed by President Emmanuel Macron to lead a minority government after a tumultuous snap election, the Prime Minister’s short tenure came to an abrupt end.
Following the vote, the Prime Minister’s cabinet is expected to act in a caretaker capacity until new leadership is appointed by President Macron. The President, facing pressure from various factions within the National Assembly, is tasked with choosing a new Prime Minister amidst growing political challenges.
During a heated debate in the National Assembly, the ousted Prime Minister expressed defiance, stating that his removal would only complicate matters but he remained unafraid. However, opposition lawmakers from different parties united to bring him down. The leader of the far-right National Rally, Marine Le Pen, played a significant role in the Prime Minister’s ousting, criticizing both him and President Macron for their actions.
As the political landscape in France shifts, the focus now turns to President Macron, whose leadership is being closely scrutinized. With a divided parliament and increasing discontent among the public, Macron faces a challenging road ahead in navigating the country’s political landscape.
