Lagos engages perm sec in traffic management

In a bid to enhance traffic management in Lagos State, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority recently appointed all permanent secretaries from various ministries as traffic mayors. This move aims to enforce the state’s traffic management law by involving individuals from both the public and private sectors in overseeing traffic within different zones.

During the induction ceremony held in Ikeja, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation emphasized the importance of the traffic mayors’ role in ensuring efficient traffic control. The initiative will not only include civil servants but also extend to private sector individuals to support LASTMA in managing traffic effectively.

By engaging members of the public to assist LASTMA officers, the state aims to boost traffic management efforts. The traffic mayors will operate within specific zones under the supervision of zonal officers, regardless of their status or level.

The Special Adviser to the state governor on transportation highlighted that this initiative aligns with Governor Sanwo-Olu’s agenda on effective transport management. The inclusion of civil servants is expected to enhance traffic flow in various corridors, ultimately supporting the governor’s THEMES PLUS agenda.

Acknowledging the shortage of LASTMA personnel, the Lagos State Head of Service commended the initiative. He urged the permanent secretaries to consider their involvement as a responsibility that should be handled with care to maximize its impact on traffic management in the state.
