During the 10th Annual Migration Dialogue at the State House in Abuja, Vice President Kashim Shettima raised concerns about comments made by a political leader of Nigerian descent in the UK. Shettima emphasized the importance of Nigeria on a global scale, pointing out that the nation plays a significant role in the global population. He also highlighted the contributions of migrants to society and economic growth, underscoring the government’s commitment to safeguarding migrant rights. In a separate incident, a British MP of Nigerian origin criticized Nigerian politicians for mismanaging public funds in 2022. Despite efforts by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission to reach out to the MP after her election as the Conservative Party leader in November 2024, there was no response.
