The government recently disclosed that 10 individuals on the interpol’s watch list were detained upon their entry into Nigeria. The Minister of Interior made this announcement during the inauguration of a Technology Innovation Complex at the Nigeria Immigration Service headquarters in Abuja. The newly installed facility aims to assess the risk level of incoming individuals, identify irregular migration patterns, and oversee unmanned borders in remote areas nationwide.
The minister highlighted that the facility’s implementation has already led to the apprehension of individuals who posed security risks. He emphasized the importance of the solar power plant and the 250 trained officers who work in shifts to monitor the borders continuously.
The minister also mentioned that the new facility is projected to save Nigeria over N300 million annually. He further explained that the country now has improved border governance, automated visa approval processes, and enhanced information sharing capabilities among security agencies.
The complex, which operates round-the-clock, consists of various components such as a data centre, command and control centre, visa approval centre, ECOWAS centre, and a solar farm.
